A Bum Tried to Steal My Money

I want to say that some of you are on top of the world right now and others of you are at the bottom hoping for that one shot in life. For those of you on top of the world you might want to keep reading for some wisdom and for those of you at the bottom, keep reading.

The example I want to use is about a hip hop dancer that was a big shot in his hometown. He was well-known and remembered by people and it motivated him to head toward a bigger goal. His dream is to make it in New York City as an actor and hip hop dancer.

What he didn’t realize is that New York City can beat you up. See, for those of you on top of the world at any second you can end up at the bottom again. He was the hometown hero and of course it would have been easy for him to stay in his town and continue on but he realized he wanted more.

He knew it wouldn’t be easy especially after performing in the subway. It hit him when a bum tried to steal the $5 he made after an hour and a half of dancing underground. Sometimes you have to get off of your mountain and head into the valley to climb a larger mountain. Some of you may have had no choice but to fall into the valley but you keep on pushing.

The valley is where everyone starts. Kevin Hart and Will Smith came from Philadelphia, Howard Shultz started at coffee shops and now he’s the CEO of Starbucks. Oprah Winfrey worked for her scholarship and Ralph Lauren dropped out of school and worked at Brooks Brothers which inspired him to sell ties.

The examples shared show that anyone that works to get out of the valley will be blessed. Here are some promises from God:

Proverbs 22:29

Observe people who are good at their work— skilled workers are always in demand and admired; they don’t take a backseat to anyone.

Proverbs 12:24

Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in forced labor.

Proverbs 28:19-20

Work your garden—you’ll end up with plenty of food; play and party—you’ll end up with an empty plate. Committed and persistent work pays off; get-rich-quick schemes are ripoffs.

You see, as long as you put in your part you are promised by God to be blessed. You’ll be blessed by God. Don’t look for the easy way out, make sure to look for secure and honest ways to find work and get money.

When you’re in the valley it may be hard to see the mountaintop with all the snow and wind blocking your view but just because you can’t see the top doesn’t mean you can’t reach it.
