At Tru.Works we interview contemporary artists from all over the interweb in hopes to understand the problems artists are wanting to solve today. The goal of our artist interviews is to explain and explore the intention the artists had behind their art.
We ask artists, “What questions did you want the viewer to ask when they witness your piece?” and, “What problem are you wanting to solve?”
These interviews are conducted by Yessenia Matamoros who believes that the artist can drive conversations that solely take place within like communities and instead connect different groups of people together. The artist can spark conversations that need to be had but aren’t due to social stigma.
The goal of these interviews are to bring people from the left and right, rural and urban backgrounds, and of different religions together. We want to have more uncomfortable conversations and make them more comfortable to have.
Our artist interviews will be of contemporary artists. The reason for that is that the contemporary artist attempts to solve today’s problems and also because we can’t interview dead people.
Tru.Works seeks to understand how the artist attempted to bring populations together by way of their art. We ask, if their piece caused the conversation the artist intended?
As we answer these questions we also hope that in sharing their vision and work’s purpose that we will bring more recognition to the artist and their work.
By initiating the conversation here at Tru.Works, we will answer the questions our audience has and inform them of new artists and ideas.
