Do you involve God in your dating life? When you give God dominion over your dating life you’ll know for sure that He won’t steer you wrong. If you’re wanting to be married, God will provide a spouse for you. Your future spouse will come to you on His timeline, not yours. Trusting God’s timing for marriage is a lot easier said than done. In due time, your spouse shall come.
Trusting God’s Timing for Marriage
Cameron and I met in May of 2013 at a church group. But we really didn’t start talking and hanging out until August 2013.
When I first met him, I wasn’t attracted to him or anything and I honestly thought he was a completely different person than who he actually is. Looking back now, I know my heart wasn’t ready for him earlier on, but by August it was!
I had gone to a worship night with a friend of mine one weekend in August. Afterward, we decided to meet up with some people from a different church group to go camping. Cameron remembers being excited that I was coming but honestly he doesn’t know why.
At that worship night, I surrendered my “love life” to God and told Him that I would follow His lead when it comes to dating.
Cameron had actually done something similar earlier in the month. Looking back, we see how God orchestrated all of this. While camping, Cameron and I talked for a majority of the time. It was a good conversation about so many different things.
For about a month after that camping trip, we hung out almost every weekend (in a group setting). Until finally, he decided to ask my parents for permission to date me. I was 21 and entering my junior year of college and he was 20, so for him to do that was super sweet but also unexpected.
a true story of God bringing couples together
Our dating relationship had some rough patches. A girl from our small group was actually murdered, I dealt with major jealousy cause he was close with a girl he used to like, and we actually had a huge falling out with our church group a couple of months before we got engaged.
We got engaged by a creek in our town. I thought we were just going to be reading by the creek on a hot summer day. But he had other plans. He actually put my engagement ring in a Bible he got with our couple name on it – “Hameron”. He even set up a camera from far away so I could watch it cause he knew that was important to me.
We were engaged for a year and our engagement season was tough. I was finishing up my senior year of college having no clue what I wanted to do when I graduated but needed to do something because Cameron was still in school. Wedding planning was something I hated because it seemed to consume so much of my life. I just wanted to get married and move on!
grateful for my husband
We have now been married for a little over 2 years and we both see things so differently, now that we are married. Love truly is a choice and it’s something you have to choose not just on a daily basis, but even at a moment’s notice. It takes strength and courage to be able to stand by someone’s side through it all especially seeing them at their worst.
Cameron’s the only one who sees all of me. The fact that he chooses to stay with me and love me even when I don’t deserve it speaks volumes to me. Marriage is hard work, but it’s totally worth it. I believe it’s one of the only relationships we have where we truly get to experience unconditional love. Love that is not earned but is freely given.
There are many reasons why you choose someone to marry you. Another good true story of God bringing couples together is this one by Sevie.
It can be easy to fall into dating without God’s wisdom. You can date the wrong people, waste time, and end up hurting yourself and other people. With God’s wisdom, you’ll find your spouse without the fear that you’ll end up with someone you can’t trust or feel anxious around. This is why trusting God’s timing for marriage is important. When you hand your love life to God, your giving God the opportunity to give you the best partner. God’s best is always better than your best. He’ll always take care of you.
